Marseille: City Hotels and Accommodation
A huge selection of accommodation can be found in the city, which lies approximately 20 km / 12 miles south-east of Marseille Provence Airport (MRS). One of the largest and most populated cities in the whole of France, Marseille is known for its stylish architecture and historic buildings, with plenty of hotels available in all categories.
Despite its size, Marseille is not a major tourist destination, meaning that finding available rooms in the city is usually straightforward, whatever the time of year. The cheapest lodging options are the city's two hostels, the HI Bois Luzy and the HI Bonneveine, although they are located outside of the city centre. Also between the months of November and March, a number of hotels in Marseilles offer special Friday night packages, known locally as the 'Bonne Weekend en Ville'.
Divided into around 15 main regions and neighbourhoods, accommodation in the city of Marseilles spirals out from the Vieux Port and includes the Le Panier area, the Belsunce region, and the residential regions close to the sandy beaches. Notable hotels in Marseilles include the Alizé on the Quai des Belges, and the Belle-Vue along the Quai du Port, close to the acclaimed portside cabaret venue. Also worth noting, the Tonic Hotel offers an impressive waterfront location, on the Quai des Belges.
